Cross….Cross…….CROSS!!

As the weather turns cold and wet, the Utah Cyclocross Series is charging full steam ahead.  There is a double-header weekend coming up with races on both Saturday and Sunday at Wheeler Farm.  Check out the UTCX website here for details.  http://utahcyclocross.com/

Team RMCC/CycleSmith is holding it’s own in the team competition sitting 4th overall in the series.  We’ve got Tyler Fought and Eric Harrington battling with the big boys in the “A’s” and Club President, Nick Ekdahl, along with Rich Caramadre are holding their own in the 35+ A category.  Jeff Flick, Doug Smith, Jay Bonaface and Michael Mchugh are representing in the Masters 45+ group.  Jess, The Head Banger, Dear is rolling his ride in the single speed - OUCH - group, and Dave Bienapfel, Carl Majors, and Jeff Flick (again) are riding B’s.  The Master Men 35+ B group has a host of riders from the club - Pete Archambault is kicking some serious ass (First in Race #2)  and putting the hurt down on a regular basis, followed by Tim Stack, then a bunch of others like Rob Wuebker, Ed Buendia, Mike Granger, George Klonizos…..and CycleSmith owners, Marek Shon and Chris Colgan.  Joshua Parris is riding Men’s C and doing well.

A couple of real standouts this year are our women racers!  Alison Vrem is consistently recording top finishes (1st in Race #2) in the Women B category along with Lisa Fitzgerald - Girls Rule!

JUNIORS….Yes, we’ve got a couple of go-getters in the Junior 9 and Under category flying the RMCC/CycleSmith colors.  Evan Flick and Lucas Boniface are getting a taste of the good life out on the Cross course every weekend - go get ‘em guys.

I know we have A LOT of other riders out there that I didn’t mention.  Cross racing is a load of fun to do, and an excellent spectator’s sport as well.  Bring your family with cowbells in tow and come give it a try.

Cross and Clearance Season

Having just completed my first cross race of the season, I can safely say that racing form falls off fast and pounds go on faster when you are 45 years old.  I’ve never been a great cross racer.  I much prefer crits or relatively flat road races where I have a chance to recover before/after  putting in a big effort.  Cross affords NO recovery time.  What it does afford is a great racing atmosphere, more casual rider interactions, and a way to carry over some modicum of fitness to the winter.  I’ll be out there again to punish my self throughout the cross season - Come on out and give it a try.  You can find all information at www.utahcyclocross.com

Clearance deals are bountiful at CycleSmith now.  We are trying to clear out some of our 2009 models to make way for the 2010 lines coming in.  Get a jump on your holiday shopping and come check out the deals.
